What to look for in a moving labor service company:
We recommend that you consider the following factors when hiring a moving labor company.
Area coverage
Local moves shouldn’t be a problem, especially with a nationwide moving labor company, but if you’re moving long-distance, you’ll have to find someone available at both your departure and destination locations.
Range of services
Most moving labor professionals will load and unload. Some might offer additional services like furniture assembly, packing assistance, junk removal, and donation pickups.
Transparent pricing
Before enlisting moving day labor, figure out your overall relocation budget. Many moving labor companies charge a flat rate for the first several hours of work. After that, they could charge anywhere from $50 to $200 per additional hour. However, rates vary, so be sure to ask about those specifics before booking a service.
License and insurance
It goes beyond saying, a licensed company is legally bound to protect your belongings. If you opt for an unlicensed business, you risk the company not taking responsibility if something goes wrong.
Insurance is also recommended. Before moving, check your homeowners insurance policy to see whether or not your provider covers household goods while they’re in transit. If the homeowners insurance doesn’t cover your belongings, you should hire labor professionals who offer valuation coverage options.
You can always buy moving insurance from a third-party insurance provider if you want more coverage. Most moving and moving labor companies will recommend that you transport your valuables yourself or hire a specialty company for the job. And it’s a good idea to ask how the company handles loss or damage claims.
Customer service policies
Is the company website informative and up to date? Can you easily find answers to your questions? Are the representatives accessible and knowledgeable?
Reviews and referrals
Entrusting strangers with your life’s belongings can be stressful, but checking online reviews can go a long way in building a picture of how the company operates. Learning about other customers’ experiences can help the selection process, though you should always take online reviews with a grain of salt.
Comparing the top three moving labor service companies of 2025
Let’s take a look at the three moving labor companies we consider the best of 2023.
HireAHelper
HireAHelper was founded in California in 2007 as a two-person operation and now has over 60 employees at its headquarters in Oceanside, California. This online marketplace provides moving quotes from over 2,000 moving companies. You can check their reviews and rankings on the website. It’s an A+ rated business with the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
Why we recommend HireAHelper
Moving.com has partnered with an online marketplace HireAHelper to find the best moving labor professionals available. It allows those who are moving to locate and book moving labor professionals in their area. Movers on HireAHelper are either labor-only moving companies specializing in load and unload services or full-service moving companies willing to send workers out on labor-only moving jobs. All you have to do is enter your zip code and your moving date.
The website will let you compare and book available labor professionals in the area. You’ll also be able to see the upfront pricing for each labor professional and customer reviews to help you evaluate your options.
To date, over 2,000 moving companies are part of the marketplace. HireAHelper also provides complimentary mover’s insurance that covers $.60 per pound and up to $10,000. We love that HireAHelper offers instant quotes from professional movers with no hidden fees.
The company is also known for its top-notch customer service and customizable moving service options. HireAHelper’s customer service is available seven days a week by phone, email and social media. The company encourages customer reviews and addresses any issues. And you can sort companies based on how well they get reviewed, making the selection process easier.
Offerings and services
At the very least, any participating company will load and unload the truck, but some also offer help with packing, furniture assembly or disassembly, furniture rearranging, and moving heavy items. Since the companies are independently operated, they may also offer full-service moves that include a truck.

Bellhop
Bellhop started small in 2011, mostly targeting college students. It became popular thanks to its technology-based business model, which is similar to on-demand, app-based services. It’s not surprising since the CEO, Luke Marklin, spent three years at Uber before joining the company. You can do everything through the app, including rating and tipping movers.
Why we recommend Bellhop
Bellhop uses an innovative business model to provide a slew of customizable services. If you like to use on-demand apps like Uber, you’ll love Bellhop. You can order any of its services through the company app (loading, unloading, delivery and hourly labor).
There’s no onsite, in-person assessment to get the quote. You’ll get a fixed price once you schedule your service time and answer questions to help determine the price, such as your location and the size of your home. You can go through the whole process by using the app, including payment, tipping the movers, and rating the move.
It is especially well suited for smaller, straightforward moves. For instance, if you don’t have any bulky items or many valuables, don’t need extensive insurance coverage (the company only provides up to $2,000 in damage coverage), and don’t need any packing assistance or furniture assembly.
Bellhop offers great customer service, and the company consistently rakes in great reviews. A big part of what makes Bellhop so popular is how convenient it is to use the company’s app. Another big plus often mentioned in their online reviews is how friendly and positive the Bellhop movers are.
Offerings and services
Bellhop offers local and long-distance moving services, both business and residential, and hourly labor. For the most part, Bellhop provides the manpower to load your belongings on a truck, transport them to your new home and unload them. You pack and provide the truck. They do the heavy lifting. You can also book Bellhop workers to move furniture, install furniture and office equipment (if you provide the tools), and set up and takedown for events. Although Bellhop doesn’t offer packing assistance, it does sell packing supplies. It also offers storage rentals through its partners.

U-Haul Moving Help
U-Haul’s Moving Help serves as an online marketplace for companies that provide hourly moving labor. These companies offer hourly labor such as packing, unpacking, loading, unloading and cleaning. They do not have their own supplies, moving equipment or trucks.
U-Haul does not require the companies that market themselves on the website to be licensed or insured. However, once companies establish a good track record with Moving Help, they can offer coverage through Safeload. You can purchase this coverage when you book a service through Moving Help if the company qualifies to offer it.
Why we recommend U-Haul Moving Help
U-Haul’s online marketplace, Moving Help, will provide an instant online quote for the services you’re looking for. Moving Help allows you to search for local moving companies based on the services you need, such as packing, unpacking, loading, unloading and cleaning. The companies that provide the services provide manpower but not the trucks or moving supplies. You’ll have to provide those. Ease of use, accessibility and affordable pricing are all reasons we recommend this company.
U-Haul doesn’t require the companies you find through Moving Help to be licensed or insured, and doesn’t provide customer service on its end, but if you don’t mind contacting the company directly and are willing to take a risk with an uninsured company, it’s a great option for smaller, easier moves. The Safeload insurance option, offered to qualified providers through the marketplace, does offer some coverage should your valuables be damaged.
Offerings and services
U-Haul Moving Help offers five hourly moving services: packing, unpacking, loading, unloading and cleaning. Some companies on Moving Help’s marketplace specialize in moving difficult or bulky items, so be sure to indicate you need help with these items when searching for a company to hire. Since you’ll have to provide your own truck and moving supplies and equipment, you can use U-Haul to rent a truck, trailer or storage container, plus get all of your boxes, moving supplies and equipment like dollies and moving straps.

How do you know which lead sources provide a higher ROI?
We understand not all lead sources perform well year-round and we are experts at maximizing the return on investment of moving companies on their monthly marketing expense to generated qualified moving leads. For instance, postcards are a gold mine during slow season whereas Google products such as Local Services ads and PPC skyrocket sales revenue during high season.
Moreover, we started booking long distance moves for broker companies, then we built a network of carriers, and now we’re focused on helping small and medium sized moving companies go from less than $500,000 in sales revenue per year to over $1,000,000 in sales revenue each month.
Do you also offer booking services?
Yes, we also offer booking services. We can plug and play to your current sales operation or manage your entire flow of leads. We also offer post-booking services such as customer service, dispatch, and claims.
Our goal is to relieve moving company owners from answering the phone and wasting time with customers and instead allow them to focus on nurturing business relationships and growing the labor side of the business.
How do you set up and manage lead sources to guarantee a positive ROI?
At the end of every month, we will sit down with you and provide you with a complete Profit & Loss breakdown report of all lead sources we managed for you. At this meeting, we will report ad spend vs sales revenue generated, as well as suggest a course of action to continue generating ROI for you on other lead sources.
Our goal is to continuously assist you as to how to reinvest the profit from the sales revenue we generate for you into other lead sources for continuous positive ROI and a long lasting partnership with us.
